Quatre

So, I'm on the 4th day without G, and so far so good.  I'm handling it semi-well, not sad, but damn do I get frustrated with having to deal with so much on my own.  I think I am going to be extremely grateful to hand things like the trash and handwashing dishes back over to him!

G actually just made it to Iraq today.  He flew into another base in the middle east before heading to Iraq and the flights kept getting messed up.  So he was living in a tent and beginning to worry me because apparently the air there is sandy and he was coughing more and more there (which other guys said was normal).  But, now he's where he's supposed to be and in training (or he is training someone, I'm not completely clear on this).  Makes me a little sad that I haven't talked to him yet, but he e-mailed me upon arrival this morning to let me know he finally made it.

Meals have been the hardest, but I've been putting the violinist Joshua Bell on (re-affirming I need to get back to playing) and it's made it much easier.  So far I'm taking about 30-45 minutes for a meal by myself....not too shabby!

G has my old camera with him, I'm looking at picking up a DSLR sometime very soon, but for now I'm using my camera phone.  I have pics of meals and flowers, but they'll have to wait until he explains to me how I get them off my phone onto here (something to do with bluetooth).

So, basically, doing great.  Have posts I'm working on about planning purchases for a wardrobe, both mine and G's.  I'm just keeping busy.  I finally began Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, my first book I've read in weeks (200 books is starting to look intimidating) and I'm working on the Rosetta Stone program this afternoon.  My hope is to be through 3 of the 5 levels before he returns.

Thank you all again for all of your support and kind comments, it has meant so much to me.

  1. I'm sure you've already done this, but I would make a list of all the things you could do if you had extended time to yourself - not the wild night life stuff, but the "I don't have to consider another human being" list. My list would include some light DIY projects, learning to cook Spanish cuisine without judgment, and daytrips around my town. Probably some sewing, too.

Of course, you'd opt for your husband to be home than not! As in other blog posts you've written, I know you will use the solitude (not loneliness) God is giving you as an opportunity to do something just for you. You are blessed with the ability to communicate with your husband regularly, and this is a chance for your marriage to be blessed by the separation instead of suffering from it.

You are an inspiration to wives (and husbands) whose spouses are deployed. I hope those people find their way to your blog so they can incorporate some of the wonderful things you are doing into their own lives.

  3. Sounds like you are doing great! Love your blog and thank you to you and your husband for the sacrifice over seas!

By the way, what language are you studying?

  4. Rebekah, yes I have a list as long as my arm of things I want to accomplish while he's gone! DIY, self-improvement, learning to cook Middle Eastern food! The list goes on and on.

    Missris, thank you!

Zaznoba, thank you! I'm studying French (again). I've been speaking it since I was 5, but I'm working on becoming fluent again.
