Parental Invasion

My parents are on their way.  Right now.  And I am rushing around like a mad woman dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing.  Picking up the mess, hoping they realized my home is not normally like this (piles of office things in boxes because it's been too hot to finish the desk).  I picked up things to cook this weekend (quiche, homemade pizza) along with pineapple, 2 watermelons, kiwi, and bananas.  I even picked up 2 dozen eggs because I didn't want to run out.  I'm making cookies, but I forgot cereal (because we rarely have it in the house).  Our shower curtains (for the guest bathroom) came from Amazon only for us to realize it would be better if they're shorter so we have to head out to Walmart for regular size ones for now.  I hate shopping at Walmart.

This is the first time my Daddy will ever have been in my home.  He wasn't able to visit us in England, so it's his first time.  And the guest room he's going to be in doesn't have blinds yet (because the windows are whoa narrow and the stores were out of the smallest sizes) nor curtains, but we might be fixing that.  And my maman is going to sweat to death because it's hell in this city in the summer and there's not much I can do about it other than offer her lots of ice water (but she really doesn't like water, so I'm hoping watermelon coolers will work).  All of my worries are crashing in on me.  I feel like I am so not ready for guests.  We have too much living room furniture, not enough bedroom furniture and I'm freaking out.

So if I have a mild heart attack and disappear for a few days you all will know why.  My husband assures me it'll be okay and I look at him like he's sprouted a second head.  I'm just praying it all goes smoothly.

  2. Just relax and enjoy their visit, Kalee. They are your family and they love you, no matter whether you have blinds or not. Just getting to spend time with you is all they want.

  5. Oh man do I know that feeling! I have a hard time every single time someone is coming over. I know it's not like they care (especially family) but I always have this urge to clean and organize e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g! What's funny is I do the same thing before we LEAVE for vacation too even though no one will be in our house (who wants to come home to a messy house? or smelly from trash that didn't get taken out or food that got spoiled? ya know?).

I hope you got done what you wanted to get done! Enjoy the visit!

  6. Kalee, I understand that it can get intimidating when you don't have the things you really need for your parents visit. At the end, it's the time you spend with them makes all the difference. Watermelon coolers sound so good. Praying for ya!
