Getting Used To This Again

His crinkles deepened in the desert...my heart sighs with gladness.
I still can't believe he's home.  Getting to wake up to him, with him wrapped as tightly around me as possible.  Getting to hear how our daughter spent the morning kicking at him while I slept.  Getting to have coffee in bed with a not-so-competitive game of scrabble.  All these simple little things seem almost like some dream that could change at any moment.

And yet life goes on.  The mundane sneaks it's way in.  Shopping for a deep freezer to hold the yummy pork that is waiting for us at the butcher.  Looking for laundry items.  Grocery shopping.  But instead of being boring and tedious tasks they've become mini adventures where we get to hold hands and sneak kisses at red lights.

We cook and we laugh and we get used to this dance again as we live this life we've been given.  A billion things to do and each a blessing because we get to do them together.

  1. Kate-
Your post gives me something to look forward too. My husband left for 400 day orders overseas earlier this week. Your positive attitude and outlook helps more than you know. Enjoy your time with G before the princess arrives.

  4. I'm so happy that G is back home with you safe and sound. Judging by your baby shower pics I think he's back just in time - exactly when you're going to need lots of foot rubs and backrubs interspersed amongst your mini adventures!
