Anniversary Dinner

Some local tulips from Virginia.  Like a sunset!
Last Saturday G and I celebrated our 5th anniversary.  I celebrated by getting my hair done that afternoon while he had Nora (all on his own for several hours!).  Then that night I made dinner.  I had planned to do mussels in a white wine sauce and then we just kept adding things to that list.  So we ended up having leeks roasted with herbed breadcrumbs served with trout, and then mussels in white wine.  G had never had my mussels, and neither of us had ever had trout, but it ended up being a delightful tasting meal.

I went with the recipe for trout from The Little Paris Kitchen, a BBC show you can find on youtube.  Six short episodes, and she just came out with a cookbook!  It was simple, but had fennel which can have an aniseed taste (something I'm not such a fan of).  I decided to be brave and we gave it a whirl and both declared it one of our new favorite dishes.
Now we're preparing to head back to the midwest to see my baby brother graduate high school!  It's an insane week prepping for a 20 hour drive with a baby!
