All That Jazz

The first big thing we did on Sunday was headed to the Portrait Gallery/ American Art Museum (both are in the same building) to sit in their terrace and listen to a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.  We grabbed a light lunch, including two small bottles of wine, and sat reading more of the paper while waiting for it to begin.
The woman singing was Lena Seikaly accompanying the Brad Lind Ensemble.  She was fantastic, if a bit hard to understand due to the vast space seeming to reverberate the sound all around until words mixed into themselves.  The band was great, and I was very pleased to see a female sax player highlighted.  She was very talented and even had a solo song. (I apologize for the shaky photos, I'm not a great videographer, but the sound is true to how it was!)
We enjoyed the two hours they played and sang immensely.  G was mildly disappointing in that he couldn't find the beat enough to dance to it, but we're working on it.  Have I mentioned my husband used to play drums (a.k.a.  was the beat?).  He's a silly goose.

If you live in the D.C. area or are visiting, I believe both the singer and the ensemble perform often.  Each name is a link to their site for more information.   Also linked is the museum, which has performances and special events throughout the year.
