The Help

Yesterday I met up with a friend for coffee and some shopping in a little area close to home.  We went digging through antiques and vintage clothing stores.  I picked up a red, lightweight apron....the sort you wear when entertaining, not when cooking.  And we drank our coffee sitting on the back porch of the coffee house watching the grey skies.

I've been attempting to slow down a bit.  To remind myself that not everything has to be done and that I don't always have to be busy.  I've been picking up books right and left to read, and I probably should compile a list for my yearly goal before I forget them all.

I'm in the middle of The Help right now and I can't really seem to put it down.  Even getting online to check my e-mail seems a waste of time.  It's a fascinating book that followed me into my dreams last night.  There's a bit of an ongoing mystery and like normal I just couldn't let it be.  I think I know what's going on, and in my dream I was discussing it with someone.  The person in my dream told me I was correct.  Don't you just love the huge ego of your subconscious?

Tonight is the beginning of this Easter week.  I'm looking forward to next week, even though I still have a couple meetings and I'm going to begin sewing lessons then.  My friend's mother has offered to teach us, starting with dresses.  I suppose I need to find a pattern!  Ironically I feel like that sentence fits more into the book I'm reading than my usual life but I am desperate to learn to sew.  Let's hope I'm a quick learner....I have a gazillion projects I've been saving!  And I'm the only 'help' we have!

  1. This sounds like a great book, and I should add it to my list. I have an annual reading list, too, and it helps me focus my entertainment hours.

I took sewing lessons at a fashion academy a few years ago. I learned how to create patterns and the amount of architecture and skill that goes into sewing. I loved it and hope you do, too!

  2. I LOVED this book! It hit so many heart strings for me. I just read an article about the author in the lastest "More" magazine--she submitted her manuscript over 60 times--kept getting "no". She became obsessed with getting it published and didn't allow all the nos to influence her not realizing her dream. It is her first book and it is a beauty! Enjoy!! xxBliss
