Table For One, Please

Tonight after talking to G about how Indian food sounded so good, he told me to go by myself and use my groupon.  My groupon.  The one for $40 worth of food.  Um, okay.  I didn't realize it was going to end up being as hard as it was to spend. 

So I told them it was just me tonight and was shown to a  booth.  I started to ask for something, but he finished my sentence knowing I like to drink my masala tea throughout.  And then I proceeded to order, which got me looks from those dining around me.  I ordered the kabob platter to start (a huge sizzling platter of shrimp, lamb, and chicken spiced and with onions and cilantro....normally 4 servings).  Then I ordered the shahi paneer (housemade cheese in a spicy tomato tikka masala type sauce) and chicken saag (chicken in spinach).  An order of tandoor roti (like naan, but whole wheat). 

So the starter came out and I took one piece of each meat and cut that up as I ate.  The plate was sizzling, at one point a piece of meat went flying as I was plating it, and I had to rush to make sure the red spices didn't stain my grey wool cardigan.  But it was delicious.

And then the main course came out.  For those who hadn't heard me order (or rather him repeat back my order),  they noticed and began staring.   Who was this woman eating all this food.  But really?  I ate probably 1/10 of the rice, a couple spoonfuls of each entree (focusing on the sauce, because I love Indian sauces), and 1/4 of the piece of roti.  The rest got boxed up in the end, so I have a couple more meals out of it (probably 3-4 meals). 

Well, I couldn't just leave without dessert could I?  So I ordered the kheer and slowly ate that as I finished my second pot of tea.  I had brought a book to read in between courses as I sipped my tea. 

All in all I was there for nearly 2 hours, I had a blast (the waiters there all know me and will stop to talk), and I now have enough Indian leftover to freeze some for a later day.  Who says you can't take yourself to a sit down dinner in a crowded restaurant.  Flaunt your boldness!

Epic Fail

Last night G and I went to play trivia at our local place.  And we were doing so well!  At half time we were in first place by quite a few points.  But the second half killed us.  We literally left early to avoid the humiliation.  At the final question we were in 4th, but bombed it (embarrassingly so, it had to do with the Cusacks, I mean...come on!).  

Overall it was a fun night, and I'm glad it's a regularly scheduled thing in my planner.  My midweek "let my hair down" time.

 They had a new girl doing the tallying....she took a little longer than usual...okay, a lot longer.  I got bored.  Hence this.  

And just because, I thought I would share how I spend my days at home....curled up in bed with Miss Sophie and Miss Audrey.  Here I am during our "huggles and snuggles" time (if you mention this phrase you will end up with a lab in your lap).  She can literally leap on the bed without you feeling or hearing it....so this photo was after a sneak attack.

Then, last night on the way home from trivia we saw this:  a dapper gentleman, standing completely upright, in a tux with bowtie, riding a segway....at 11 p.m.  I of course had to get a snap, but this was the best I could do.....he was moving fast!

Life is funny, isn't it?

Pondering Boardgames

After last night's festivities I decided that drinks with traditional board games could be a fun idea.  Here's what I've come up with so far:

* Candyland with peppermint schnapps hot cocoa.

* Clue with martinis.

* Mousetrap with wine and a cheese plate.

* Monopoly with goldschlagger shots.

The list could go on and on.  What drinks with games would you pair up?

Oddest Thing Ever

So James Cameron was at The Climate Rally.  With Giovanni Ribisi.  See my face?  ( I have an appreciation for Ribisi ever since I saw The Other Sister.  I think he's adorable and his name rocks.)

I was super excited.  James Cameron was there to talk about the Home Tree Initiative.  (They're planting a million trees.)  Anyhoo, we watched Avatar the night before the rally and were impressed.  However at the rally I was creeped out/amused by these people:

Who Would You Pick?

So, this year G and I have slowly started to get into Lost.  Of course it's the last season.  That works for us since we can watch the whole series and be done with it.  But it has made me think funny things at times.  


Such as:  When on a plane am I the only one who looks around trying to figure out who I would want to make friends with if we were to crash on an island?  Because on my recent flights I did.  I really did.  (I tried to be discreet).  


For the record, I would want to make friends with the younger men who look like they could build something, and a man with a baby because the kid was adorable.  There were a lot of men on my flights (business men, early early morning).  

Cue The Theme Song

So G and I are at Panera today, enjoying a mug of coffee, discussing the weather, my need for the 36 hour bag, and babies, when I see a guy in a very standard looking tan trench coat.  That coupled with his whole look made me start humming.....the theme song for Inspector Gadget.  And G jumped in with "Inspector Gadget!" and we laughed for the longest time.  Just one of those moments that I wanted to record because it makes me smile!
